I’ve never believed this more than I do now. My summer? It’s been packed. I’ve been travelling and experiencing a ton of new people, new places, and new learning. Each of these events on their own? Amazing. When I put them together? I’ve learned more than I’ll ever be able to explain. Learning is not some endpoint on a linear path. Learning is a process, a journey, a collection of experiences through which we make connections to ourselves, to each other, and to our futures.
My project this week that I’ll present at Microsoft Partners in Learning is all about that journey. In my project, our vehicle for exploring the journey is the Iditarod. But, no matter the vehicle in your classroom, whether it’s Columbus, or space travel, or the journey to understand fractions, it’s all the same. It’s not always easy. It brings unimaginable challenges, great rewards, and meaningful experiences. Sometimes you wonder if you’re going to make it to the next destination. You feel pushed, pulled, uncomfortable, and in the end? The reward is looking back on the journey and knowing that you made it afterall. The struggles, the failures, the successes, they were all just points along the way in the process.
I know that Partners in Learning will open my mind up to new ways to use technology with my students, new ways to enhance their learning experience, and new ideas for me as an educator. I couldn’t be more ready.
