I’m working on a little post about my New Year’s resolutions as a teacher. I’m trying to narrow down to my top ten….  But, for now, I just wanted to thank the fabulous Deborah Mersino of Ingeniosus for giving me the Global #gtchat Award for Passion.  One definition of “passion” is  listed as “barely controllable emotion.”  Is that what I feel about teaching and learning?  Absolutely.

Everyone in life finds those things they absolutely love to do and cannot live without.  That moment when I walk by a kid who takes a pile of construction paper and designs a machine to create clean air for the earth because he’s worried about the environment?  That’s what it’s all about.  He may only be 8, but you can see in his eyes that someday, he’s going to do his part to save the world and he’s already contemplating it.

Teaching is excitement. Chaos. Busyness. Dreaming. Doing. Learning. Creating. Guiding. Loving. Encouraging. Inspiring. Questioning. Modeling. Struggling. Advocating. Pushing. Reaching. Pulling. Engaging.

At the end of the day, when you’ve given it all, you’ll get it all right back.  You’ll realize that YOUR passion has grown because when you pour everything into inspiring a kid, and wait, they’ll inspire you right back.   It’s not about paychecks, competing with others, or contracts. It’s about kids.

Deborah, this photo is for you!  Thank you for creating an online community in #gtchat for gifted education and for always inspiring!  Most of all, thank for you reminding me, to take note of the things I’m inspired by, show gratitude, and enjoy. every. second. of my job.

Afterall, it’s not *just* a job, it’s a passion. 😉
