Do you tweet?  Do you think Twitter is just a place where people write “Just ate a cheeseburger, delicious”?  Twitter is so much more than that!  If you teach, then you should tweet!  You might be skeptical.  You might be thinking, do I really need another ‘online place’ to look at?  Well, you don’t HAVE to tweet, but you will love it once you give it a chance.  Read a variety of posts and you will realize that sometimes 140 characters delivers a great resource, classroom idea, colleague collaboration, or even instant feedback.   I have noticed that I usually read about the most current research on Twitter first.

Teaching gifted education usually means you have very few (or even no) other educators in your field at your school.  Twitter has allowed me to meet other gifted education teachers and collaborate with them!  Through a weekly chat in Twitter, called #gtchat, we are able to discuss current topics.  People from all around the world are sharing ideas!  (Click here to read more about #gtchat!)

Not sure where to start?

1.) Give it two weeks.  Trust me.

2.) You have to “follow” people to read great stuff.  Check out Twitter4Teachers to find educators in your field and pick a few, or a few hundred. :),  to follow.

3.) Look for hashtags like #edchat or #gtchat.  Clicking on the hashtags will allow to to instantly connect with other educators!  If you post about gifted, add #gifted and #gtchat to your tweet so that other gifted education folks can find you!

4.) Give it two weeks.  Did I say that already?  Trust me, 2 weeks. 😉

Still not convinced?  Here is a sampling of resources that I found on a Sunday a few months back and posted for my students to explore.   Instant resources!  What more can a teacher ask for? 🙂
